F.A.Q.

1.  What is a scrapbook?

Scrapbooking is a method for preserving a legacy of written history in the form of photographs, printed media, and memorabilia contained in decorated albums, or scrapbooks. Scrapbooking is a tradition similar to storytelling, but with a visual and tactile rather than an oral focus.

2.  Why is it important to have one?

In order to keep the memories of your family and events preserved for generation to come, Scrapbooks artfully and creatively display your memories, events, souvenirs and keepsakes.

3.  Why can't I keep my pictures in my old photo album?

Acid-free paper is a relatively new invention, meant for the purposes of preservation of documents. Your old photo albums may contain elements that will damage your photographs and keepsakes.

4.  What is archival and what is acid free?

For your scrapbook to stand the test of time, materials used in the creation of your scrapbook album have to be free of acid and lignin.  The absence of these renders something archivally safe, which is a requirement we take seriously.

5.  What is journaling?

Journaling is one of the most important elements in your scrapbook.  Journaling tells the story to the person enjoying your scrapbook today and years from now.  It should include, at the very least, the 5 w’s: who, what, where, when and why.  In addition, effective journaling includes a funny story, what someone said, how the “who” felt, etc.  If you can hand your scrapbook to someone and walk away without adding to the story, you have journaled effectively.

6.  How do I determine what size album I want or need?

Small albums (8x8) hold about 1-2 pictures per page and are the perfect size album for a gift such as shower, baby, graduation, memorial, etc.  Large albums (12x12) hold 3-5 4”x 6” pictures per page (6-10 per layout), or a variety of photo sizes and are generally used for chronological scrap booking, weddings, vacations, etc. Album size will be discussed and determined during your initial consultation.

7. How long does it take to complete an album?

The amount of actual time it takes to complete an album depends on the complexity, size and how many photos and memorabilia are involved with the project.  We have albums ready for delivery in 2-4 weeks.  We do reserve the right to notify the Client of a longer time estimate during peak busy times.  The Client is always notified during the initial interview process of any potential changes to our typical delivery dates.

8. What if I need an album rushed?

Please let us know during the initial interview process specifically when you need the album and we will do everything we can to accommodate your request.

9.  What if I don’t want a picture permanently mounted?

We use permanent adhesive for creating albums unless you notify us otherwise on the information sheet.  We will then use removable adhesive for your photos only.

10. What if I don’t want a picture resized (cropped)?

Cropping photos allows for maximum focus on your subject as well as flexibility in the creative process.  Having different sized pictures on a page is also interesting to the eye.  However, we recognize there are times when this is not desirable. Please let us know on the inventory sheet if pictures are not to be cropped.

11. What if some of my items are not archivally safe like newspaper, programs or other memorabilia?

This is fantastic!  Having memorabilia in your scrapbook is a wonderful way to tie the photos into the journaling.  We can treat the memorabilia with an archivally safe spray that will protect it against further deterioration and will prevent it from damaging nearby photos in the layout.

12. What if I already bought supplies?

If you wish us to use them, please send them along with your photos and any supplies we use, we will discount the supply portion of your estimate and invoice.

13. This seems complicated…HELP!

Don’t worry – we are here to assist you in every step of this process.  If organizing and completing the information that helps us to complete your album is overwhelming, we can do it together!  Communication is a key element in the success of a custom album and there is no compromise on this planning stage.
